چکیده

Today’s organisations are increasingly relying on the web to support their operations and the integration of their processes with their partners’. Portlets, which are distributed web components that encapsulate web applications, are considered a promising breakthrough towards this aim. The goal is to define a component model to enable portlets to be easily plugged into web portals. This article outlines the main challenges associated with the definition and use of portlets. As any component model, portlets should have clear interfaces so that they can be plugged into third-party applications. This includes the communication between the consumer of a portlet and the portlet container, as well as the communication between the portlet container and the portlet itself. Two standards, WSRP and JSR168, address these issues. After outlining them, we conclude with some insights into the implementation of portlets.

From page-centric to portlet-centric Web development: Easing the transition using MDD

Portlet syndication is the next wave following the successful use of content syndication in current portals. Portlets can be regarded as Web components, and the portal as the component container where portlets are aggregated to provide higherorder applications. This perspective requires a departure from how current Web portals are envisaged. The portal is no longer perceived as a set of pages b...

User Facing Web Services in Portals

In SOA framework, Portal applications aggregate and render information from multiple sources in easily consumable format to the end users. This approach is not well suited to...

It aims to solve the problem of traditional data oriented web services which required the applications to be aggregated prior to any specific presentation l...
